Background & Objective

The challenge or opportunity you are trying to address for the organization.

The ADL (Anti-Defamation League) has long been at the forefront of fighting hate, bigotry, and anti-Semitism across the United States. Despite ongoing efforts, hate crimes continue to rise in many communities, highlighting the urgent need for innovative, community-driven approaches to combat these issues.

Learning Objectives

This is what students will learn as they complete the case.

This case focuses on designing community-driven, systems-level interventions to address hate crimes through education, partnerships, and grassroots action. Students will explore how local communities can serve as powerful agents of change by combining data, empathy, and coordinated stakeholder efforts to foster safer and more inclusive environments.
  •  Analyze the root causes and patterns of hate crimes within specific communities using qualitative and quantitative insights
  •  Identify and map key stakeholders (e.g., schools, law enforcement, nonprofits, faith groups) and understand their roles in community-based interventions
  •  Design community-centered programs that address prevention through education, dialogue, and proactive engagement
  •  Develop cross-sector partnership strategies that align incentives, responsibilities, and resources across diverse groups
  •  Create awareness and advocacy campaigns that effectively mobilize community members and shift attitudes and behaviors
  •  Apply principles of cultural competency and inclusivity to ensure initiatives resonate across diverse populations
  •  Design measurement frameworks with clear KPIs to evaluate program effectiveness and long-term impact
  •  Explore barriers to reporting hate crimes and propose solutions to improve trust, accessibility, and community responsiveness
  •  Integrate feedback loops and continuous improvement strategies into program design to ensure sustainability and adaptability
  •  Understand the role of communication, storytelling, and local leadership in building resilient, anti-hate community ecosystems
