Background & Objective

The challenge or opportunity you are trying to address for the organization.

In a world often divided along religious lines, food offers a profound path to unity. Kosher and Halal dietary laws—observed in Judaism and Islam, respectively—share core values of discipline, ethical slaughter, and ritual preparation. However, they are often misunderstood or oversimplified.

Learning Objectives

This is what students will learn as they complete the case.

This case challenges students to design an interfaith educational experience that uses food as a medium for cultural understanding and community building. It requires integrating religious research, event design, and stakeholder engagement to create a respectful and impactful dialogue space. Students will develop a program that is both intellectually grounded and operationally feasible, producing a replicable model for fostering connection across cultural and religious differences.
  •  Analyze the religious, cultural, and ethical foundations of Kosher and Halal dietary systems and their role in identity and community life
  •  Evaluate key similarities and differences between Kosher and Halal practices to inform accurate and respectful educational content
  •  Design a culinary demonstration that integrates storytelling, cultural context, and accessible teaching elements
  •  Develop a facilitated dialogue framework that encourages meaningful interfaith engagement and reflection
  •  Assess how event design elements (format, facilitation, activities) influence participant learning and connection
  •  Design an inclusive outreach and marketing strategy that engages diverse audiences across campuses and community groups
  •  Develop a comprehensive event operations plan, including logistics, partnerships, and resource coordination
  •  Synthesize research, programming, and evaluation into a scalable “event-in-a-box” model for replication in other communities
