About Iskashitaa Refugee Network
Iskashitaa (Somali for “working cooperatively together”) is a grassroots nonprofit founded by Dr. Barbara Eiswerth in Tucson, Arizona. It engages UN refugees and community volunteers in harvesting surplus local produce—more than 100,000 pounds annually—from trees, gardens, and farms, redistributing it to refugees, food banks, and local families. The organization also offers cooking, food preservation, ESL classes, gardening, and arts programs to empower refugees’ social, cultural, and economic integration.
